Then the UPLEVELLING WRITERS' CLUB is perfect for you.
In each 45 minute session, within a very small, online group, we will all work together to tackle a typical 11+ prompt, learning techniques to impress the examiners. Both narrative (stories) and non-narrative genres will be tackled.
We will cover the following:
- purposeful planning
- imaginative ideas
- engaging openings
- cohesion
- paragraphing
- appropriate vocabulary
- grammar
- spelling
- figurative language
- power punctuation
- strong endings
Many parents prefer their children to have one-to-one sessions, but in my experience, progress can be greater within a group for these reasons:
- Students can learn from each other's ideas
- Greater motivation: students are eager to outperform each other
- Strength in numbers: we achieve more together, than on our own
- Social element: students make friends and want to impress them
After each session, each student receives an optional homework task which is an extension of the group task. This task provides me with an invaluable insight into the student's progress and needs which I can address in the next session. Feedback is provided to the student, via their parent. Also, each parent receives a PDF of every lesson which, if filed, can be used at a later date as an exemplar.
